Nicaraguan, Ethiopian, Saint Lucian...Yum Yum

Updated: Dec 10, 2024

Knowing that there are more coffees out there to explore than I could imagine, it seems a bit wreckless to use the term "favorite coffees" when refering to the ones that have left an indelible mark upon my heart thus far. However, these are the coffees that stand out to me when I think about the most aromatic and flavorful coffees that I have experience to-date. I hope that one day you get to try them too.

Oh, you have experienced them already? Well leave a comment and let me know what you thought!

Nicaraguan

On a trip to Nicaragua to support a local charity, I had my first experience with the magic of Nicaraguan coffee.  Sure, we had to hike up the massive Mambacho volcano to get it; however, the brew and the view were worth the trek.  Coffee was first introduced to Nicaragua by Catholic missionaries and grown just out of curiosity.  Today, coffee is one of Nicaragua's top exports.  The amazing Café Las Flores coffee that we had on that Mambacho volcano presented a rich and aromatic chocolatey smoothness that was both exquisite and unforgetable.

Ethiopian

Our daughter was blessed to have an amazing Ethiopian nanny and, lucky for us sleep-deprived parents, she was an avid coffee drinker!  Ethiopia has always been considered the birthplace of coffee and the blend that our nanny introduced us to did justice to that title.  The coffee was just delicious with an elegant flora flavor that reminded me of bergamot.  Our nanny actually got the coffee at a Trader Joe's, but sadly we were never able to get that specific brand again.

Saint Lucian

On a trip to Saint Lucia to visit my sister and her family, we stopped at a local grocery store and decided to pick up a bag of Green Gold Mountain Coffee.  Folks, this coffee is as delightful and unique as the beautiful island of Saint Lucia.  I never thought of Saint Lucia as a formidable coffee producer, but this coffee proved me wrong with its clean, sweet flavor and balanced profile.
